The Essentials of an Effective Sponsorship Plan

There is more to sponsorship than paying the bills. An effective Sponsor can mean the difference between success and failure for your project. It is a common scenario for most interactions between the Project Manager and Project Sponsor to take place during project execution and control. However, most projects that are deemed successful enjoy the active support and participation of the Project Sponsor during all phases of the project. The Sponsorship Plan is now being recognized as a key component of the Master Implementation Plan. This workshop will introduce simple techniques that can be used to define the role of the project Sponsor and develop a plan that keeps the Sponsor actively engaged throughout the project life cycle.

After completion of this workshop, Project Managers will be able to:

• Detail the elements of an effective Sponsorship Plan
• Identify and describe competing demands that influence the project
• Determine where, within the organization, sponsorship is needed
• Proactively identify sources of resistance and develop strategies to respond to this resistance
• Develop a Communication Plan that compliments sponsorship
